Stanwich Club is a Private 18 hole golf course located in Greenwich, Connecticut.
The Stanwich Club golf course opened for play in 1964. The course was designed by William and David Gordon.
This is a long and demanding course with fast, undulating greens. In addition, the narrow fairways are well manicured. The terrain is rolling, plus lakes come into play on several occasions. Stanwich Club has frequently recieved the Golf Digest "Best in State" course selection.
The Stanwich Club, which had been formally organized earlier in the year, purchased the course and club land (186 acres) in 1962.
One of the Club’s first acts was to hire the father-son golf course architects William and David Gordon to design the course. William Gordon had built courses for notable architects such as Donald Ross, Devereux Emmet and Willie Park, Jr. Gordon had had built or remodeled courses at Saucon Valley, Shinnecock Hills and The Country Club.
After examining the property, William Gordon told a committee of Founding Members that “if you let this property get away from you, you’re crazy.†He went on to give them or three different designs ranging in cost from $300,000 to $485,000. After some discussion, one of the committee members, Jim Linen, told Gordon, “Let’s see how the $485,000 version would look.â€
As it turned out, it looked very good, indeed. Stanwich has regularly been ranked as one of the country’s top courses, listed in Golf Digest’s respected “America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses†14 times and is generally considered the finest course in Connecticut.
Like most top courses, Stanwich has undergone renovations over the years. In 1985 architect Brian Silva oversaw some changes but the major renovation came following the 2002 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship. Senior Design Associate Tom Marzoff of Fazio Golf Course Designers, Inc. led the 2006 project which saw changes to many of the greens and bunkers, the addition of 23 fairway bunkers, the addition of several new tees, the removal of hundreds of trees, and other substantive changes.
The 18-hole "Stanwich" course at the The Stanwich Club plays to a par-72 and a whopping 7,133 yards from the back tees. The course rating is 76.0 with a slope rating of 144.

Without question the best course I've played. Great layout, condition and shot values. Pro Shop staff was very welcoming and helpful and my caddie was a true professional. Don't pass up on this opportunity if you're lucky enough to get an invite!

Course was great. Back tees are actually 7,500 yards. A true test from tee to green and the greens are everything and more then what you hear from people who have played it before. Be below the hole and if you are chipping with an 8 iron it will be a long day for you.
